Joseph F. Vitale (Democrat, born November 10, 1954) has been serving in the New Jersey State Senate since 1998, where he represents the 19th Legislative District.
Senator Vitale is the current Deputy Majority Leader in the Senate. He is the Chairman of the Health, Human Services, and Senior Citizens Committee, and he serves on the Wagering, Tourism, and Historic Perservation Committee and the Economic Growth Committee.
Senator Vitale serves on the Board of Directors for the Middlesex County Habitat for Humanity and on the Board of Trustees of the Visiting Nurses Association of Central Jersey.

Senator Vitale is the prime sponsor of over forty bills that have been signed into law, including legislation improving health care, protecting civil liberties, and strengthening ethics in our state government.
Senator Vitale sponsored the KidCare and FamilyCare Health Coverage Programs, as well as legislation requiring nursing aides to undergo certified criminal background checks, the Emergency Health Powers Act, and the Patient Safety Act, which establishes a reporting system for medical errors.
Senator Vitale is the sponsor of the 1999 New Jersey Homeless Youth Act, which allows minors to seek homeless shelter without parental approval. He sponsored legislation supporting victims of crime for drug users and to prohibit gun ownership by those convicted of domestic violence offenses.

About the 19th Legislative District
Joe Vitale represents New Jersey's 19th Legislative District, a diverse and beautiful area of New Jersey.
Senator Vitale represents Carteret Borough, Perth Amboy City, Sayreville Borough, South Amboy City and Woodbridge Township. The 19th District contains part of Middlesex County, including those communities adjacent to the Raritan River where it meets the Raritan Bay. The District has a higher than average population density. It has large Hispanic and Asian populations. Democrats significantly outnumber Republicans.

Advancing Legislation
Senator Vitale continues the fight for a strong system of health care in New Jersey.
A bill sponsored by Senator Joseph F. Vitale which would require the Departments of Health and Senior Services and Education to provide information to parents of students in grades 6-12 about meningococcal meningitis was unanimously approved by the Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee.
